Art Therapy Program

Art Therapy provides a relaxing space for creative self-expression, helping patients cope with the emotional, psychological and physical challenges associated with rehabilitation. Benefits may include but are not limited to:

  • Expression of thoughts, feelings and emotions
  • Enjoyment and re-engagement with life affirming activities
  • In groups: gaining peer support and socialisation
  • A sense of achievement/accomplishment
  • Discovering unearthed creative ability
  • Pain relief
  • Improving fine motor skills: hand-eye coordination
  • Motivation for other rehabilitation therapies
  • Opportunities to increase concentration and focus
  • Opportunities that may assist problem solving, organisation, planning and memory

Art therapy is suitable for all people and prior skill or art experience is not necessary. Creative mediums include paint, pencil, pastel, clay, mosaic, plaster, sculpture, collage, photography, written expression, poetry and window paints.

Just wanted to say what a wonderful service you provide. I have been seeing a patient whom I referred to your group a number of weeks ago and the enjoyment, sense of achievement, and 'my time' she gets from the Open Studio has made a tremendous impact on her self confidence, self esteem and hope for the future.
Well done! (from Royal Talbot Psychologist)
